Creamy, flavorful and perfect on the go… It’s my all time favorite snack or quick lunch and it can be ready in 5 minutes. I’m talking about hummus!!
Hummus is a typical Middle Eastern dish made with chickpeas and tahini (sesame seeds butter) and it’s the perfect base to create fantastic appetizers, salad dressings and even pasta sauces!!
Not only is the ultimate dip and will make you look incredibly fancy at any given dinner party or family gathering, but it can be ready in 5 minutes and it requires only 10 ingredients that you probably already have laying around in your kitchen.
The star ingredient are chickpeas, a fantastic plant-based protein and source of vitamin K, vitamin B, magnesium and iron. A real nutrient powerhouse in the form of an incredibly versatile ingredient!
• 1 1/4 tbsp tahini
• 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
• juice of 1 lemon
• 1 very small clove of garlic
• 250g cooked chickpeas
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1/4 tsp cumin
• 1/2 tsp paprika
• 4tbsp water (more if needed)
1- Start by placing the tahini and the lemon juice in a food processor and blend until you have a creamy consistency.
2- Add the olive oil while it’s still running.
3- Wash and drain the chickpeas.
4- You can peel the chickpeas for a more smooth and creamy consistency but it’s completely optional.
5- Add half of the chickpeas, the garlic, the paprika and the cumin and blend again.
6- Add the water while the food processor it’s still running.
7- Add the rest of the chickpeas and the salt and blend for a couple of minutes until completely smooth.
8- Adjust the salt to taste and add more water if you want a more liquid consistency.
You can store the hummus up to two days in the fridge in an airtight container with some oil over the top to keep it fresh.
